The Office: Chevron Painted Walls

One of the reasons why I started this blog was not to only document and share new designs to our home but to also help push me to start with these ideas that I get and complete them. I first shared my office remodel inspiration ideas last month with you. Here’s a look at my inspiration board:
And here’s my ever growing checklist for this room:
I completed one of the items on my checklist over the weekend, painting chevron stripes on 2 feature walls. I wanted removable wall paper like the one in my inspiration picture however that wasn’t in the budget. Instead, with the help of my friend Joanna I was finally able to start this project. Let me first say that I bought a chevron wall stencil and I was thrilled when I first got it. I was originally planning on measuring and taping my own stripes but when I saw the stencil on GroopDealz for $10.00 I was trilled. The thrill didn’t last long though (sigh). As we were getting ready to use the stencil, it became very clear that I was going to have problem with the stencil. It wasn’t very stable and I knew paint would bleed through it. I’ve stenciled walls before and I have to say it’s better to spend more money on a good stencil….
So what were we left with?? Instead of measuring the stripes I traced the lines from the stencil and then went crazy with Frog Tape. Let me tell you, the tracing part was easy….taping on the other hand seemed to take forever. In all, it took about 5 hours to tape 2 walls.
Let’s first start with some before pictures of this space:
I decided to go with three different shades of gray for the chevron stripes:
Once everything was taped off, I started by painting with the darkest gray and going lighter until I was finished. Here are some picture of my progress. It took about an hour, per color for a total of 3 hours of painting. If you follow me on Instagram (@lasims915) you can see more pictures of this ongoing project.
Shall we see the finished product?
I’m pretty happy with the results and I’m looking forward to checking off more of those items off my checklist. Stay tuned for more to come!
