Meet Macklin

Don’t you just want to smile when you see this sweet little face? Meet Macklin David Sims, born on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 12:31 p.m. weighing in at 8 lbs 9 oz. 20.5 inches long and lots and lots of hair. He is a laid back little dude that sleeps through the dogs barking like crazy, the husband screaming over hockey and just about everything else. I’m so blessed to welcome another man in the Sims household.

Many bloggers share their birth stories for everyone to read but I’m going to keep that story between my Husband and I and close family/friends. It was a special experience and the birth of any child is truly a miracle.

Today marks Macklin being with us for one month and boy has this boy grown. At his 3 week check up he was already weighing in at 10 lbs 4 oz….I’m sure he will be taking after his Daddy.

Like our maternity photos (which you can view here) Candice was able to capture some newborn photos when Macklin was exactly one week old.

We didn’t even plan the dogs coming in to some of the pictures but they sure do love their little brother.

Some News

I was a bit MIA this past summer and early fall. There is a very good reason for that and one I’m extremely excited about and feeling extremely blessed all at the same time. The Simply the Sims family will be expanding this Spring. We aren’t getting another dog (which I secretly would love) rather we are adding a human baby to the Simply the Sims family. Yes – we are expecting and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Hank and Vinny are excited to be older brothers too.

With that – things have been crazy at the Sims household when I would prefer things to be on the more simpler side. I was busy volunteering at the animal shelter all summer and fall, fighting off the first trimester morning sickness and being tired all the time and then the holidays with just wanting to spend some quality time together as a family. When my energy was starting to pick back up again all I wanted to do was complete every little project in the house before baby Sims arrives into this world. What does that mean? It mean’s I’ve been extremely excited because that means I get to plan and organize like crazy with a mix of decorating. What’s not to love? Well besides the point that I can’t do much of it by myself I’ve made the husband get in on all the action. Which he loves so much…haha. When he isn’t watching hockey I’m getting him to do something here or there.

What does this mean for all of you blog readers? Well it means some recipes (which I have been posting), can you tell I’ve been having a sweet tooth craving? It also means some great pregnancy style posts and of course some home updates and maybe some organizing tips ranging from getting the nursery ready, registering, hospital bag prep and even postpartum recovery and more.

Simply the Sims is about too get a bit more crazy but as always we will be living life simply.

Vinny – 1 Year

Vinny – 1 Year

As I’m sure you know I love my dogs and any dogs for that matter. A little over a year ago I started volunteering at a local animal shelter, Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society. One of the best things about this shelter is that they are  no-kill and they work really hard to find home for all the animals they take in. All of my fellow volunteers are great people and we all love animals, especially dogs. About a year ago I saw this pictured:

This is Vinny, formally Trooper. They found Vinny abandoned in a vacant home around the 4th of July last year. It’s estimated he was left alone without food or water for about 4 days during one of the hottest weeks of the summer. Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society took him in right away. It was found that Vinny had parvovirus.  Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that can produce life-threatening illness. The virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in a dog’s body, mostly the intestinal tract and white blood cells. If not treated right away the dog can die. Vinny was diagnosed pretty quickly and he was a real ‘trooper’ while he was in the animal hospital.

As you can see he was severely under weight at the time, he was approximately 14-16 weeks old when the shelter took him in. 1 year ago today I brought Vinny home:

David and I pretty much fell in love with him right away. We knew we wanted to get a second dog and a brother/sister for Hank while he was still young. Hank and Vinny took to each other right away.

This is Hank and Vinny together just after meeting….I can’t believe this was a year ago. Vinny was so tiny.

Even a year later these two are best friends and they are attached by the hip…or rather Vinny sitting on Hank.

Another reason why Vinny is so special to us and another reason why his anniversary is so special to us is that today is also mark’s my late father’s birthday. I like to think that he brought Vinny to us on this special day. Happy Birthday Vinny and Dad.

You can read more about parvovirus here. I think any pet owner should be aware of this virus and as always, vaccinate your pets.
