Dog Ear Cleaner

Dog Ear Cleaner

I know I usually post food recipes on Mondays but today I’m giving you a recipe for your dog! That’s right…a dog ear cleaner recipe. Poor Hank suffers from ear infections from time to time. I knew he would eventually have these problems because he has big floppy ears. I’ve taken him to the vet a few times for his ears, mainly his right ear and they have provided medicine to put in his ears to help when he has an infection. The last 2 months I noticed it was worse then ever, I’m not sure if the weather has anything to do with it. I have to say that I wasn’t too pleased with the medicine that we were using previously so I took it upon myself to make something of mine own to help with his ears. After usually the DIY cleaner for 3 weeks now I’m extremely pleased with the results and I think Hank is too. I wished I had taken a picture of the inside of Hank’s ear so I could show how bad it was.

I put two cap fulls of the vinegar and water followed by a cap full of the tea tree oil. When I’m treating Hank’s ear I take a cotton ball and wet one end of it with the mixture and then rub it carefully in Hank’s ear and in his inner ear. I then gentle massage his ear. During the first three days of his treatment I did this twice a day and I had to use about 2 cotton balls each time. Hank responded really well to the medicine and it didn’t hurt his ear(s) when I was massaging them. After three days of applying the medicine twice a day I then only did it once a day for a few more days and now I do it about every 3 to 4 days. Now three weeks later his ears, specifically his right ear have completely cleared up. They never cleared up like this with the medicine from the vet office.
